Job Overview
The Finance Executive is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the organization by ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions, timely receipting, account reconciliation, settlements, and the maintenance of financial documentation.
The role focuses on ensuring accuracy in financial records, compliance with regulatory standards, and smooth transaction processing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transaction Processing, Receipting, and Settlements
- Accurately post daily financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Handle receipting for all client payments and ensure appropriate application to the correct accounts.
- Liaise with internal teams (e.g., Underwriting, Client Services) to validate and match premiums received.
- Process payments to vendors, healthcare providers, and service partners as assigned, ensuring full documentation and proper authorization.
- Monitor and report on payments made, outstanding payables, and related
settlement issues. - Ensure payment requisitions are correctly raised and backed by adequate support
documents.
2. Bank Reconciliation & Cash Management
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations for all company accounts.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Monitor bank charges and interest, and report unusual or unapproved transactions.
3. Financial Documentation and Records Management
- Maintain organized records of financial transactions and ensure supporting documents are securely filed.
- Ensure all payment and receipt activities are backed by complete and verifiable documentation.
- Provide required documentation during audits or internal reviews.
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure financial operations comply with internal policies, regulatory standards, and audit requirements.
- Maintain proper filing of financial records, including invoices, receipts, journals, and correspondences.
- Ensure audit trails and supporting documents are up-to-date and properly archived.
5. Data Protection & Confidentiality
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality in handling company-related
information, ensuring compliance with data protection laws and internal policies. - Adhere to the company’s information security guidelines, including proper storage, transmission, and disposal of sensitive materials.
- Promptly report any suspected data breaches or unauthorized access to the
appropriate company authority. - Participate in periodic data protection training to stay informed about evolving
security risks and best practices.
6. General Assignment
- Execute any other duties and tasks that may be designated or assigned by the
Company. - Participate in the knowledge sharing programme of the department and the
company. - To provide support to your manager, Managing Director, and Vice Chairman as may be required towards serving the Board, Management, and staff members.
Required Skills and Qualifications
1. Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- ACA/ACCA certification is an added advantage.
2. Experience:
- 1-3 years post-NYSC work experience in a finance or accounting role, preferably within the insurance or HMO industry.
3. Skills and Competence:
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, operations, and accounting principles (IFRS).
- Good knowledge of double-entry accounting and financial controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Tally).
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
KPIs and Performance Metrics:
- Timeliness and accuracy of financial transaction processing.
- Quality and completeness of reconciliations and financial reports.
- Timely resolution of receivable and payable discrepancies.
- Adherence to internal control procedures and audit compliance.
- Level of responsiveness to internal requests and finance queries.
