Job Overview

The Legal Executive provides essential legal and compliance support to the organization by reviewing contracts, managing legal documentation, supporting regulatory compliance, and advising internal departments on legal implications of operational decisions.

The role ensures that the organization operates within the bounds of relevant laws and industry regulations, particularly in the insurance and health sectors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legal Advisory & Documentation

  • Provide legal opinions on day-to-day operational issues and business transactions.
  • Review, draft, and interpret contracts, service level agreements, partnership agreements, NDAs, and MoUs to protect the company’s legal interests.
  • Identify potential legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

2. Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor and support the implementation of NAICOM, NHIA, and other applicable
    regulations and industry guidelines.
  • Assist in ensuring the company’s licenses, filings, and statutory obligations are up to date.
  • Liaise with regulators and legal service providers under the supervision of the Head of Legal and Compliance.

3. Corporate Governance Support

  • Maintain proper records of Board and Management decisions and ensure documentation is in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of resolutions, returns, and other corporate governance documentation.
  • Support compliance with company secretarial obligations.

4. Claims & Dispute Resolution

  • Work closely with the claims and underwriting departments to review contentious
    claims and ensure legally sound recommendations.
  • Participate in the internal resolution of provider or client disputes, ensuring all communication is documented and aligned with legal best practices.

5. Data Protection & Confidentiality

  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality in handling company-related
    information, ensuring compliance with data protection laws and internal policies.
  • Adhere to the company’s information security guidelines, including proper storage, transmission, and disposal of sensitive materials.
  • Promptly report any suspected data breaches or unauthorized access to the
    appropriate company authority.
  • Participate in periodic data protection training to stay informed about evolving
    security risks and best practices.

6. General Assignment

  • Execute any other duties and tasks that may be designated or assigned by the
    Company.
  • Participate in the knowledge sharing programme of the department and the
    company
  • To provide supports to your manager, Managing Director and Vice Chairman as may be required towards serving the Board, Management and staff members.

Required Skills and Qualifications

1. Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL. B) and BL qualification from the Nigerian Law
    School. An additional certification in Insurance Law, Health Law, is an added advantage.

2. Experience:

  • 3–5 years of post-call experience, preferably in the insurance or health sector, with exposure to regulatory compliance, contract law, and corporate advisory.

3. Skills and Competence:

  • Strong knowledge of corporate, contract, and insurance law.
  • Excellent legal drafting, interpretation, and research skills.
  • Sound understanding of regulatory frameworks (NAICOM, NHIA, NDPR).
  • Good communication and negotiation skills.
  • High ethical standards and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining discretion and professionalism.

KPIs and Performance Metrics:

  1. Timeliness and accuracy of legal document reviews.
  2. Contract compliance and risk mitigation score.
  3. Percentage of resolved disputes/claims with legal input.
  4. Compliance tracking and filing accuracy for regulatory documents.
  5. Feedback from internal stakeholders on legal support services.
